I had to get DirecTV to get "cable" Internet (a shared T1 in my apartment building--shared with 15 people) or a packaged phone deal to get DSL. Then I had to get a TV so I could use the DirecTV I am paying for... grrr... Such a waste. Sometimes I think I should have a luddite home with books only. And that's just my apartment.. don't get me started on looking for a car. Dude, I feel the same way.
