Snow in La Porte!

It snowed in La Porte in Christmas Eve/Christmas! We got about 2 inches on snow here at home (that stuck), but parts of Texas farther south got as much as 13 inches. Completely abnormal. Photos are available on my sister’s website, and I will have some posted in my gallery later this evening.

CX back

Well, it was 4PM before CX was back up and running. Talk about a wasted day. I couldn’t do anything without CX.

It’s official, CX is down

Yes folks, it’s official. The main LeTourneau University database (student information system … CX for those who know it) is down! I got a call just a few minutes ago from my boss giving me a heads up that all our ecommerce stuff was offline due to a hardware failure. It looks like one or more of the disk drives failed. Thank goodness for backups :)

I have no idea how long it will remain this way … perhaps it will mean an early break?

Cool Idea

Dad sent me a link yesterday, which I couldn’t get to until last night, that was a really cool idea. I see so many cool possibilities for TJOC and even outside of camp. I can easily see us doing something like this for camp where we would go out, ’set’ a control, take a picture of it (making sure to record the direction I was facing), and post that picture along with a the other information collected and a clue. Do that about 20 - 25 times and you have yourself a very nice map exercise that you could do online or on paper …

It’s been a while, so a little bit of everything

Ok, I know … I know. It’s been ages since I last posted here. Work has been so busy the last month or so that I just didn’t want to see much of the computer once I finally left the office for the day. (Strange concept isn’t it?).

The Quad4 Wiki has been really busy over the last month and a half or two months. We have lots of great content appearing, but we also are starting to develop a few flamewars at the same time. Thankfully both parties involved in the war are freshmen, and therefore more easily managed.

I moved all the TJOC 2004 stuff around on tjoc.us in preparation for TJOC 2005. Dad and I talked extensively about TJOC and Nationals (which we’re hosting this year) on the way back to Longview from La Porte after Thanksgiving. I think I’m going to try and do more with the website this year, maybe even convince COL. Methered to do web-based registration again. At a minimum, I need to find a good way to publish results, and quickly. That’s always been an issue after camp (since I just don’t have the motivation once I get home).

I’ve been doing a fair bit of reading since my last real update. Booksamillion has gotten a good chunk of money out of me in the last two months, so much so that I really need a third bookcase. I did some programming on my reading list pages the other day, really making things pretty cool behind the scenes. Go check out what I’m currently reading, and what’s in the chute.

I guess I never really posted anything about my ‘fall cleaning’ spree back around elections. On Nov. 2, my birthday and elections this year, I really cleaned up around the apartment, including buying and setting up a new (#2) bookcase to even out the load some. I promptly filled it up, although my original one is a bit sparse right now (mostly DVDs and large books) … but it’s filling up to. I have pictures, and I will eventually post them in the gallery, but they are at the apartment and would be more trouble than it’s worth to get to them right now.

I bought a GameCube before Thanksgiving … it’s been way too much fun to have around. Games like ‘Mario Cart: Double Dash’ and ‘Super Monkey Ball’ have become popular (again) in the Quad. It’s been nice to spend a little time over there since I was out of it about the same amount of time I disappeared from here.

Well, I’ll save the rest for later. It’s lunch/reading time.
