Types of Civilizations
I was reading an article on Slashdot about a “Star-Less Galaxy” and there was a comment that really got me thinking. He mentioned a Type 3 civilization … something I’d never heard mentioned before, so I looked it up.
Apparently an astronomer named Nikolai Kardashev once proposed that there are (or will be) four types of civilizations. We are currently an advanced Type 0 according to the descriptions I have found for the different levels.
Now, skip on down to Type 3. That’s what great Sci-Fi is all about right now. Even a Type 2 would be so cool to run into (assuming they are non-aggressive by that point). It all just gets my mind running with all the possibilities …
