The FT-8800R
Imagine my suprise (and elation) when this showed up at my door yesterday. Dad had sent me a UPS tracking number just 30 minutes before without telling me what it was that was arriving. Way too cool! There are more pictures on my Flickr page tagged ft8800r.

8800R has a smart MIC .
Dont program the Right side display for
your 2nd functions , its merely “bait” .
Leave both sides on the Head , unprogrammed .
Instead , program the MIC buttons .
Assign 4 functions on the MIC .
Band , VFO , tones ….etc .
Mine is on the way according to UPS tracking. Should have it waiting for me when I get home from the office today. I am very excited to try IRLP since the WIRES II FRG’s in this area have discontinued support. Only IRLP remains. What is your experience with this rig on IRLP?
Thanks in advance for your reply to my direct email.

Chase – I saw that you were doing some work on programming the 8800 with Hamlib. I wonder if you made any progress that you woudl not mind saharing. I have an applicaiton that only needs to be able to simulate multiple radios. For example, I need to be able to use programming SW for an FT2800 to write to another PC instead of to the 2800.
I have a capture of the transfer and I find it odsd that commands start with the character 0C, yet do not have any termination character and do not have a byte count per command. Do you have any experience with this? Any comments?
