The Manchurian Candidate

I watched “The Manchurian Candidate” last night (thank you free trial from Netflix). IMDB currently has it weighing in at a 6.7/10.

The movie was decent. I think there were specific plot points they could have delayed, thus increasing the suspense, but overall it was well written and well acted. It isn’t on my list of “Must Watch” movies, but it was still worth mentioning here.

Troy

I also grabbed “Troy” from Netflix last week. This was another movie that I enjoyed. Great battle scenes, great story, and overall very enjoyable. IMDB currently has it at a 7.0/10, and that is probably about right.

Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow

I rented “Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow” from Netflix this week. It only has a 6.5/10 on IMDB, but I thought it ranked a bit higher than that. The story wasn’t overly involved, but the effects and (funny) acting kept me watching it. Overall, very well done. Especially since I heard that it was filmed almost entirely in front of a green screen.

When Worlds Collide

I nabbed this movie from Netflix and watched it last night while Legolas was emerging system. All I can say is … corny. I’m sure that in 1951 when it was first released that it was one of the better ones available, but by today’s standards it is downright stupid. The ’science’ in it is so bad that I almost couldn’t watch it, but I endured and saw it through to the end. It’s not on my list of movies that I would recommend to others :)

“I, Robot”

Went to see “I, Robot” with a couple of others tonight. Now, understand, I *have* read “I, Robot” by Issac Asimov so I can’t watch this movie without making some comparision. That comparison being, it was nothing like the book.

Moving on, I really liked this movie from an entertainment point of view. It kept me entertained and immersed in the story almost the entire time. Now, I went into this knowing that it was going to be mostly just an action type movie, and I wasn’t dissapointed in that aspect. The story line was mostly flushed out and the computer graphics were excellent. Worth watching if you can spare the cash and time.

Movie Night

We watched another movie last night over at Lucky’s apartment. I must say that I was very skeptical about the movie choice, but I was willing to go along for the ride. We chose “50 First Dates” last night, something that had it just been me, I would not have picked. However, as the movie got started, I realized that it was more than just a ‘romance’ film, but stood out as a great comedy as well. Currently IMDB has it listed at 6.8/10, which isn’t bad, but it isn’t good either. If you are looking for a good laugh, this movie should do it for you.
