Chase - I saw that you were doing some work on programming the 8800 with Hamlib. I wonder if you made any progress that you woudl not mind saharing. I have an applicaiton that only needs to be able to simulate multiple radios. For example, I need to be able to use programming SW for an FT2800 to write to another PC instead of to the 2800.

I have a capture of the transfer and I find it odsd that commands start with the character 0C, yet do not have any termination character and do not have a byte count per command. Do you have any experience with this? Any comments?

Mine is on the way according to UPS tracking. Should have it waiting for me when I get home from the office today. I am very excited to try IRLP since the WIRES II FRG's in this area have discontinued support. Only IRLP remains. What is your experience with this rig on IRLP?
Thanks in advance for your reply to my direct email.

8800R has a smart MIC .

Dont program the Right side display for

your 2nd functions , its merely "bait" .

Leave both sides on the Head , unprogrammed .

Instead , program the MIC buttons .

Assign 4 functions on the MIC .

 Band , VFO , tones ....etc .

Ya, I've moved entirely away from Gentoo myself, for the exact same reasons. I loved it, but it got to be too much work dealing with all the internal politics and changes ... it just got to be too much.

I was spending more time at work dealing with it (on my work machine) than I wanted, so I installed Fedore Core (5 at the time, 6 now). Works like a charm.

That's way cool that there's enough linux support on campus to have something like that.

Although it pained me, I ended up ditching Gentoo a few months ago in favor of Kubuntu. "Back in the day", Gentoo was rock solid even when running "unstable" with reiser4 and a bunch of hard-masked packages. Not any more. Even running "stable", every time I'd update, something would break, and I don't have the time to fix it like I used to. I heard a lot of developers quit due to internal conflicts, but I don't know. What I do know is that QA seems to have taken a back seat to doing stuff like hacking portage to allow MySQL 4 and 5 to co-exist on the same system and changing the way apache and PHP were installed about every other week. </rant>

Hope things are going well... it looks like you got your employment/continuing education problem straightened out. Have a great Thanksgiving.

Cool car! I wish I had that time to wait when I went to trade in the Jeep, but didn't, so I got a Mazda3 instead of the Focus I was looking for. On the financial paperwork, you are right, it is a pain!!! I've done it twice, and will probably do it again sometime this year when my girlfriend buys a new vehicle, as we will probably be married by that time. We're looking at the Jeep Commander for that. For everything else, you should be getting an e-mail from me very shortly.

Please try TicTap as well. http://www.tictap.com

TicTap searches by SMS, so the information is stored in your phone. We are not limited to just ISBN and UPC, try keywords too. But try to be descriptive with the words.

You can visit the website later to review all your SMS searches. Or just grab the RSS feed.

TicTap also has web-based search. You can also find top-selling, most-gifted, most-wished, and newly-released products. You can even SMS price information for a product to your cell phone from the web site!

We also have a Konfabulator widget for download.

Oh wow! You can write a bunch. Must have had a lot to get off your chest. I did read the whole thing. OK, not entriely true. I heard the whole thing. A plug-in for Firefox read it to me in a "computer" voice. Your dad was not kidding me when he told me you had a story to tell.

I love how it all started. They locked all the cardinals in the Sistine Chapel because they hadn't selected a new Pope yet and the people were getting restless. Every since then it has been done this way.

Brendan's going to get you for copyright infringement for using "Legolas"... that was his computer's name. ;-) Seriously though, I'd be willing to contribute a little to a new system if you're looking for donations. And I'm very interested in knowing how secondary MX servers work, as I've been wanting to set that up for myself for a while.

Hey Chemmett, good to hear from you. The only thing holding me back at the moment from finishing out my install is finding a boot disk with chroot on it. I don't know, maybe I can just boot off the disk I have and then somehow grab chroot separately.

distcc is awesome... a couple weeks ago I was building a gentoo system for somebody and had 3 athlons on the network compiling for it, one of which was a windows box running the cygwin version of distcc. Good luck with it.
